Shakena Richardson and Syessence Davis have taken the Neptune Scarlet Fliers to unprecedented heights during their time playing for Coach John Brown. They will soon be taking their talents to the Rutgers Athletic Center as part of the Scarlet Knights. During a press conference last week, Richardson and Davis announced they would be attending Rutgers as a duo, choosing over such schools as Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Maryland, and Syracuse.

The duo joined The Shore Sports Report for an interview just minutes after the press conference. They expressed their excitement about playing for legendary Coach Stringer and mentioned the academic standing of the school playing a major role in their decision. They acknowledged that the sentiment for Rutgers is changing for athletes around the state, and the school has become very appealing to attend, which is a far cry from what young athletes were saying years ago.

ESPN HoopGurlz has Richardson rated as the No. 7 overall recruit in the country for 2011, with Davis at No. 31. Richardson, a dynamic point guard, averaged over 12 points, close to 4 assists and 2 steals per game, while Davis, a versatile wing, averaged over 12 pts , over 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists per game.

The duo has been receiving letters from schools since their freshman campaign, and decision to attend Rutgers is a landmark day for the Scarlet Knights. To recruit the 7th and 31st ranked players in the country as a package deal will go a long way to restoring greatness to a program that slipped out of the Top 25 last year. Before signing off, Davis and Richardson told the listeners that they “we’re going to bring Rutgers to a National Championship.”
